I’ve actually managed to get some crafts done over the last few days. I’ve sewn an outfit and skirt for my daughter. I have another one cut out and am waiting to sew it. I’ve crocheted a scarf for her as well. There is also a cute nativity project in the works. Hopefully, this week I’ll get some pictures uploaded and details of each project. There may also be others to add to the list during the week. I want to finish a couple of other projects before I head home to visit with my family for Christmas. The kids will be making ornaments some time this week.
Why is it that when you try to run in a store and pick up a few things, fast, your kids decide that is the moment for a meltdown? It never fails. When I’m in a hurry is when they choose to move as slow as possible. Maybe, it is just God’s way of telling me that I need to slow down and catch my breath. Maybe, I’m the one moving at the wrong speed.
My daughter and I ran to the grocery store after taking my son to school. I signed up to make the teachers lunch today. I decided to do something easy, but delicious. I made a pot of homemade chili and made some good old hotdogs. I know it isn’t the most nutritious meal in the world, but it sure does taste good going down. It is kind of a holiday tradition of mine. My dad would always take off the week before Christmas. He and I would always go to the local hotdog diner in town and pick up a couple of dogs. We did this at least once that week. Making this for lunch was my way of sharing this tradition with my son’s teachers. It was also a way to say thank you for all that they do. That chili smelled so good simmering that I just had to have a good old hotdog for lunch.
If you are like me, you need help coming up with great project ideas that your kids can participate in doing. While I was at my church’s MOPs group, I heard about Family Fun Magazine. I decided the subscribe to give it a whirl. I have to say that I love it! I’ve only received one issue and I have found several projects that I want to do with the kids. The projects are easy for kids to do, but not so easy that they are boring. Follow the above link to check out their website. A subscription really is affordable. They also have great ideas and recipes right on their site.
…well, for my son. He loved playing with his play kitchen, until yesterday. Yesterday, his sister decided to crawl inside of it and completely knock the back panel off. There was no way to repair it.
So, feeling the Christmas spirit, I went out and bought a brand new (better) kitchen for him. I had it put together when he got home from school. He thinks Santa left it here because he has been extra good, so he received a pre-Christmas present.
The giving of the gift made me feel really good. The putting together of the gift made me feel really bad. I hate putting together these sets. It is entirely made of plastic. I had to screw, manually, all the screws through the plastic because the company didn’t see it necessary to pre-drill the holes. I guess it saved the company a whole dollar by not doing this. I guess they also assume that everyone has a drill or electric screw driver. Well, my husband is away and so is the key to the shed. One sore hand later, I learned that I really need access to an electric screwdriver.
It was worth all of the pain, though. My son is still in his room “cooking” away. Don’t you just love it when a plan comes together.
