You are currently browsing the daily archive for June 5th, 2008.

I wanted to let everyone know that the giveaway will begin on Sunday, June 8th.  Don’t forget to stop by to sign up.  You won’t be disappointed!  Nancy Langdon herself sent us some great prizes.  There will be ways to earn multiple entries so check back on Sunday.

The sew-a-long will begin on Monday. So, get your sewing machines ready.  I’ll take you step-by-step through another Farbenmix pattern.  It will be a lot of fun!  Don’t forget to check out our last sew-a-long.  It is never too late to sew your Paula pants.

Later this month, we have a big interview coming.  I won’t tell you who it is with yet, but you can be sure that it is related to our theme this month.

Wondermommy is going to share lots of Farbenmix/Studio Tantrum projects this month.  Everyone is invited to participate.  Check here to see how to snag a button.  Putting the button on your own site gets you a second entry in the giveaway that begins on Sunday.

Get out there and join us in our Farbenmix/Studio Tantrum month.  If you would like to share your project and have it featured on Wondermommy, please send an email to: idoru(at)popstar(dot)com.  Make sure it is related to our theme this month.  I would love to see what all of you are making out there.

I would also like to say thank you to Sew Mama Sew’s blog for announcing this celebration.

Have fun and sew much!

I have never before sewn knits.  My son wears mostly knits, so it has been hard to find patterns that work for him. He often gets left out.  Well, I decided that there is no time like the present.  I bought ball point needles, read my manual, and broke out my Farbenmix Zoe pattern.  And, let me say, it was not as hard as I thought it would be.  It isn’t as easy as sewing wovens, but not as bad as I had envisioned either.

The Zoe pattern is great!  It is so versatile and unisex.  I used the straight cuts, but there are also tapered versions so that girls get that closer fit.  On the dinosaur shirt, I didn’t pull enough on the collar so that it was snug.  That was my biggest mistake.  I used my cover stitcher on the dinosaur shirt, and I used just a zig zag on my regular sewing machine for the other shirt.

The fabrics came from two different places.  The dinosaur fabric and white rib knit came from Sewzanne’s and the other fabrics were purchased from Fabric Hound

I think I’ll have to try sewing more knits in the future.  It is the only way to conquer that fear.  So, don’t be afraid.  If I can do it, so can you!  It really was fun, and not half as hard as I thought that it would be.
