Mint Tutu

April 9, 2008

I love this tutu.  It is a pretty mint green.  I bought the tulle at Party Innovations.  I buy the six inch width rolls.  All you do is take a piece elastic in the length that you need to fit around the child’s waist.  Sew it together to make a circle.  Then, decide what length you want the tutu.   You will cut a piece of carboard to that length.  Wrap the tulle around the cardboard.  Take your rotary cutter or scissors and cut once across the tulle.  You will be left with tulle strips twice the length of the tutu that you want to make.  Then, proceed to tie the tulle to the elastic.  Make sure the tulle is folded in half over the elastic before you tie.  Tie in a double knot.  It will take two or three rolls of the tulle.  That is all there is to it.  Once you have tied the tulle all around the elastic, you are done.  Make sure that as you tie the tulle to be careful and not tie too tightly.  You do not want to bend the waistband in half.  You also do not want to stretch the band as you tie.

Oh, I almost forgot.  On this tutu, I also single knotted the ends.  You can leave the tulle untied on the ends if you wish too.

So sweet! It looks like something a little woodland fairy would wear.
