June Sew-A-Long — Marieke

June 9, 2008

Deciding which pattern to do for this sew-a-long was tough.  I knew I had to follow our theme this month.  Farbenmix and Studio Tantrum have so many great patterns.  I looked through all of my patterns many times.  At first, I thought that I would do the Anna pattern.  Then, I thought about Zoe.  I thought about several others, but I finally decided on Marieke.  This is a great pattern and suitable for all levels of sewers.  You can customize it in many different ways.

The Marieke pattern can be purchased from:

Banberry Place

Fabric Hound

There are probably more shops that have the pattern, but these are the two that I recommend.  I’ve ordered from them before and each have great service and selection.

You will also need to order the fabric for this sew-a-long.  I’m going to use 100% cotton woven…quilting cotton.  I’ll be making size 86/92 which is a size 1/2 in US sizes.  Keep in mind that we will be making the pattern without the underskirt.  I want to keep it simple for those of you that are beginners.  I may add a section at the end for ways to embellish this dress.

This time our Sew-A-Long is going to be more interactive.  Each week you can leave a link to the progress of your outfit that you have posted to your blog/webpage.  If you don’t have a blog or webpage, just send a picture of your progress to idoru(at)popstar(dot)com.  I’ll keep Wondermommy readers posted of your progress.  Make sure you put Marieke sew-a-long in the subject line of your email.

You’ll have a week to find your pattern, buy it, and get your fabric together.  We’ll start sewing next Monday.  Go ahead and wash, dry, and iron your fabric.  That way you’ll be ready to cut when the time comes!

This sew-a-long is going to be a lot of fun, and I can’t wait to get started.  I hope you will join us.

I’m also offering you a button to show your support and participation in this sew-a-long.  Either, right click the image below and save it to your computer.  Then, place it on your site with a link back to wondermommy.  Or, use the code below the image to place it on your site in your sidebar or in a post.  This way everyone will know you are participating!

I’ve been wanting to get more into sewing clothes so this would be a great way to do it. Do you think these pattern run a little small or little big? Just wandering because I’m wanting to sew it for a little girl who can wear 4 or 5.

I find that most farbenmix patterns run a little on the large side. The have plenty of growing room. You can also tweak the pattern in the straps and under the arms to give you more room.

I also have this pattern and have never made it. Looking forward to it! I also figured out how to get some buttons onto my sidebar – so I placed both the june button and the marieke button – yippee! I’m not totally useless!
