Rachel Sew-a-Long Day 8

March 10, 2009

Day 8

Our final day is finally here!  It took me awhile to get it to you, but it will be worth it when you have your finished dress!

First things first, find all of your pieces and lay them out so that you can visualize where we are going.

Now, take your underskirt pieces and stitch the sides together and topstitch the seams in place.  I used a serger and serged them together.  Place them back where they belong in your laid out pieces.

Take your middle layer, this is the 5 pieces that are all stitched together.  Stitch long basting stitches around the top so that you can gather the layer.  Pull the bobbin thread to gather this layer.  Pin it to your finished bodice piece.

Now, stitch this layer to the bodice.  I simply serged it into place.

Then, iron the seam toward the bodice and topstitch.

Now, take your two bottom layers, the underskirt and the pointed layer. Run basting stitches along the top of both of these pieces. Pull the bobbin thread to gather both pieces. First, take your pointed layer and pin it to the bottom of the middle layer. Once this is completely pinned into place, pin the underskirt layer on top of the pointed layer. Use the pins that you pinned the pointed layer to the middle layer to pin the underskirt layer in place. You will create a sandwich of the two bottom layers.

Sew these in place. I serged them to the middle layer. Turn, iron, and topstitch this layer toward the middle layer.

Hem the bottom of the underskirt. I did this by running a line of serging, turning, ironing, and topstitching into place.

Your dress is now complete! Don’t forget to share your creations by leaving a link in the comments section or sharing on the Wondermommy Flickr Group!  I’ll share modeled shots later this week.
