Charm Skirt: Final Day

November 10, 2009

Final Day

Yes, that’s right…it is our final day!  Grab your waistband piece and head to your ironing board.  Turn the waistband down about 1.25″ to 1.5″, and iron in place.

Stitch about a 1/4″ from the finished seam.  Make sure you leave a 1 to 2 inch opening in the middle of the back so that you can insert your elastic!!!

Gather the top edge of your skirt and pin it to the waistband.  Make sure your skirt is gathered evenly around.  Stitch the waistband in place and finish the seams.

Here is what you should have at this point:

Measure your child’s waist and cut the waistband to this length.  Insert it into the casing made on the waistband of the skirt.  I use a safety pin to help run it through the waistband.  Overlap the ends of the elastic about an inch or two and stitch in place.  I usually stitch a small rectangle and stitch an X in the center of the rectangle to reinforce.  Make sure your skirt is evenly spaced around the waistband.  Now, sew the opening in the waistband closed.  Your skirt is finished!  Here’s a look at the finished product (I’ll have to get modeled shots later.):
