Stash Busters

January 12, 2010

It is time for a challenge. Do you have an overflowing stash of fabric? Has your fabric addiction taken over your life? Well, let’s use some of that fabric that’s been sitting on your shelves…become a stash busters. The best part is that at the end of the contest there will be prizes. Here are the rules:

1. You cannot buy any fabric from February 1, 2010 until April 1, 2010. I know it hurts, but we are trying to whittle our stashes down…not add to them 🙂 If you add to your stash during the contest you will be disqualified, if you use the purchased fabric or not.
2. You may buy patterns and notions. That’s it…nothing else!
3. Join and upload items that you’ve made from your stash to the Wondermommy Flickr Group. You may also want to join the Wondermommy Facebook page for updates.
4. Each week there will be a stash busters post. Leave a comment in this post with your official item count and approximate yards that you’ve used. You must post at least one picture in the Flickr Group listed above to be considered for prizes at the end of the contest.
5. On April 1st, I will tally your results. There will be winners chosen based on the most items made, and there will be winners also chosen based on the most yards used.
6. Please, please, please leave a comment on this post to let me know that you are participating in this challenge. This way I will have a better chance of keeping up with all of your numbers.
7. Here is the code for a button that you can place on your website or blog to let everyone know that you are participating!

Or, you may save it to your computer and upload it to your blog. Just make sure it is linked to this post.

8. Now, leave a comment below if you are participating and go let all of your friends know. You don’t want to miss your chance at great prizes that will be fabulous patterns and maybe even some fabric 🙂

Alright, I’m in. I’m going to struggle with not buying new fabric, but I’ll give it a shot. I definitely need to get through my stash & I have so many projects that really need to get done!
Thanks for hosting this!

I’m in! I need to whittle down my stash because I have no more space! I am very bad about taking photos of my finished products and even worse about blogging them, so maybe this will help motivate me.

What exactly qualifies as notions? Ribbon, thread, snaps, velcro, buttons, zippers??

Do they need to be items made after feb 1? Or can we start now?

3. January 12, 2010 3:06 pm

I will definitely be joining in on your challenge. I am going to use this as motivation to get more dresses and outfits listed in my etsy store.

I have a question though….I do custom orders for some customers. If they order something that requires a fabric that I don’t have does that count against me if I buy the fabric that is needed?

5. January 12, 2010 6:47 pm

I’m in! My husband is going to love this particular fabric challenge. 🙂 This may have been answered… but does batting count as a notion?

6. January 13, 2010 1:57 am

Oh, man. You’re bright yellow star was like a beacon, calling my name. I’ve been on a buying frenzy lately! This is exactly what I need to stop. I’ll be putting your cute little button on my blog, and showing some renewed restraint for the next quarter!

I’m gonna play! I’ve been stash busting on my own but its so much better with others for motivation!

9. January 13, 2010 7:32 pm

Count me in. Lord knows I need some motivation to clear this stuff out!

10. January 14, 2010 3:19 pm

really… april 1st??? is this a twisted and cruel joke ??? twist my arm … I will join the insanity (since I just got in 11 blots of MM and need to curtail my spending!)

• January 14, 2010 3:23 pm

Rofl! You could send some of that my way 🙂 I know it is a long time….I just keep hoping somewhere in there I’ll get some free fabric 😉

11. January 14, 2010 3:27 pm

Oh Kristen! Did any of that contain Patty’s, Sandi’s and Paula’s newest lines??? But I guess I would have to act quick since I can’t buy any during the month of February! LOL!

Well I am going to participate but not for a prize. I have a budget and I work on my stash every month. But I know I can out sew what i am buying and whittle away at my stash considerably, with some motivation of course. Is that okay if I still participate forgoing the prizes? Just let me know!

14. January 20, 2010 6:31 pm

I’m totally in, but I’m an idiot apparently – LOL!
I can’t figure out how to join the Flickr group? I’m not seeing a link anywhere, I wonder if my adblocker is nuking it?
Thanks so much for a great challenge… I hope I’m not too busy with the bows & clippies, I’m missing the chick-a chick-a dance! 😀

• January 21, 2010 9:29 am

I’m glad you are in! The link to join is usually under the title of the group’s name. There’s a row of links…check there.

Tomorrow is the last day to buy fabric! LOL! Who is making a last minute purchase??

20. February 4, 2010 3:56 pm

I’m in! Can’t wait to get sewing this week-end. I need to claim some room back from my son’s closet. Poor guy has no space of his own. Thanks for the motivation! I think I’m going to have to make some dresses for all my girlfriends with daughters.

Just posted my first finish in the flickr group! Bonus sneak peak of Jennifer Paganelli’s new fabric line due out in March.
Working on a pair of Zuma’s right now.

21. February 4, 2010 6:05 pm

No buying for me! I just went to Walmart and behaved myself and didn’t even go NEAR the fabric section!

22. February 4, 2010 9:53 pm

I’m in, I was just talking about how I needed to reduce my stash.

Well, am a day short and dollar poor….my sister would have loved this contest for me, but since two weeks ago I have been making almost daily trips to Joanns and any other fabric store….not including the fabs I just bought from the group…

Oh, well, maybe next time!!!

24. February 10, 2010 8:00 pm

I just found this contest. I am in! haven’t been to a fabric store this month so far so I am good! Sure am glad I purchased Easter dress fabrics back in January! LOL!

25. February 24, 2010 11:05 pm

I’d like to join in, but learned of it too late and have already purchased some fabric this month. Can I just join in for the fun and motivation of tackling this with others?

• February 25, 2010 9:34 am

Sure you can join for the fun of it! We’d be happy to have you along!

26. March 14, 2010 7:30 pm

Unfortunately, I will have to drop out of this. I have had to buy fabric for custom orders. But I have still be trying to use only stash stuff unless a custom pops up. It has been great digging out fabrics I have had for a while.

Thanks for the inspiration!!!

• March 16, 2010 8:19 pm

You can still participate in the mini challenges as long as they come out of your stash, so keep following along 🙂
